Dungeon Generator for Dungeons and Dragons
PCG and what already exists

There are many examples of dungeon generators in video games. Spelunky, Binding of Isaac and Enter the Gungeon are just quick examples. Dungeons and Dragons also has random dungeon generators and even one of the published books by the company itself has one.
One of the biggest reasons I decided on this project was because I wasn’t happy with anything that already existed though. The website Donjon in figure 1 for example is the page I stumble upon the most, but it doesn’t do what I want it to.
The base settings create weird dungeons, where dead ends are unnecessary, doors are random and rooms are just a bunch of monsters and nothing more. Furthermore I can never figure out where the entrance is, even when tweaking with the settings.
There is no rhyme or reason at all and copying the exact dungeons of Donjon would result in terrible games for me. You can tweak the settings, but you shouldn’t be forced to in the first place in my opinion and even then some of the issues struggle to be fixed.
The point is that Donjon is not really great for me and yet for dungeons and dragons this is the best I can come up with. I want something better. There is still inspiration to be taken though. One thing about Donjon I do like is to connect rooms similarly to how they do for my dungeons. I’ve also been inspired by Spelunky with how they layout rooms and content made by other people for Dungeons and Dragons can be used as inspiration to how I want my generation to look. The book Dungeon Master Guide published by Wizards of the Coast (the owners of Dungeons and Dragons,) also has some helpful guidelines like what purposes a room can have like a prison or a common room.
